Study reveals that owing a home is a top priority for recent immigrants to CanadaMonday, 7 January 2008 91% of recent immigrants polled in Canada's major cities (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary and Ottawa) listed owning a home a top priority.
54% of them have already successfully climbed onto the property ladder, in spite of challenges, within three years (on average) of arriving in Canada. The recent increase in home ownership by immigrants has been attributed to the fact that they are able to persevere, because they place a higher importance (than native-born residents) on home ownership. Another reason for the increase is also because they have additional incentives for ownership, such as demonstrating success and permanency to themselves and others.
