Major financial boost for Canadian immigrationThursday, 3 January 2008 The Canadian Government has announced that Nova Scotia's will receive an extra $1.5 million for funding immigration settlement services this year. Statistics Canada reported last month that 6,900 immigrants moved to Nova Scotia between 2001 and 2006. While this was up significantly from the previous period, the percentage of the population remained well behind the national average. Canada spent $2.1 million on settlement programs in Nova Scotia in 2005-06, and by 2008-09, that will be up to almost $5 million.
