Canada eases requirements for Croatians

After 12 years of visa difficulties, it is now finally easier and more convenient for Croatians to visit Canada.

Immigration Minister Diane Finley has recently announced that Ottawa has decided to lift the restrictions and subsequent demand for extra visa requirements for Croatian Citizens.

The past 12 years have seen Croatians looking to visit Canada face tremendous scrutiny when applying for a visa. Croatian men between the ages of 18 and 65 had to fill out a supplementary form with questions about their past military activities.

As a result, Canada experienced poor tourism numbers from Croatia, because Croatians understandably found the additional visa requirements to be quite inconvenient.

"This decision eliminates an obstacle to full development of the two countries' co-operation and lays the foundation for further enhancement of relations," the Immigration Minister said.

In what is seen as a considerable step forward in improving international relations between the two countries, Canada has agreed to remove the considerable additional requirements.

This should increase the amount of Croatians travelling to Canada, which is already enjoyed by so many other tourists. In fact, travelling to Canada from overseas has reached a three-year high in November.
