Canada drops visa requirements for Czech and Latvian citizens
Thursday, 8 November 2007
Citizenship and Immigration Canada has announced that passport holders from the Czech Republic and Latvia will no longer require temporary resident permits in order to visit Canada.
The move recognizes the often strong family ties between Canadians and Czech or Latvian citizens. The move also comes on the heels of a warning from the European Union that Canada could face increased pressure if it did not lift the visa restriction on the new EU members.
Last year, the Czech Republic and Latvia accounted for approximately 8,400 temporary resident permits to Canada.
