New Office for Foreign Credential ReferralsFriday, 1 June 2007 The Canadian government has launched the first phase of the Foreign Credentials Referral Office (FCRO), a project that was created to assist foreign-trained workers find jobs more quickly in Canada, by having their credentials assessed.
The Canadian government has set a budget of $32.2 million for the initial five years of operation of the Foreign Credential’s referral office. The government also announced they will be funding approximately $7.7 million in new projects that are designed to improve the Canadian economy. The FCRO will help foreign workers find jobs through an improved online service that provides information on the Canadian labour market. An estimated $18.8 million will be invested in improving the online information service for many provinces and territories in Canada. A newly developed website (www.credentials.gc.ca) will feature a search engine that will allow foreign workers to find out if they qualify for occupations in Canada based on their skills and experience. There will also be in-person service available in many cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax, Calgary and Winnipeg. |
