Newfoundland to Extend Health Care to Foreign StudentsWednesday, 6 June 2007 The maritime province of Newfoundland will extend provincial health care coverage to foreign students starting on June 11, 2007. Newfoundland's 2007 Provincial Immigration Strategy committed to extending the province's Medical Care Plan (MCP) to foreign students, in recognition of the contribution that foreign students make to the island's economy and culture. Students must be attending a Newfoundland and Labrador education institution for at least 12 months, and be issued a study permit by Citizenship and Immigration Canada prior to entering Canada. Dependents of the foreign student can also obtain MCP coverage if they live in Newfoundland and Labrador, and have valid documentation and status. |
