Ontario launches new Provincial Nominee Program.Tuesday, 29 May 2007 Ontario has launched a new Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in an attempt to attract even more skilled workers and talented business people to Canada’s most populous province. The long-awaited Provincial Nominee Program brings Ontario in line with other Canadian provinces like Alberta, British Columbia and Nova Scotia that use PNPs to attract skilled newcomers. The new program will launch as a pilot, or test-bed, and will nominate 500 newcomers for fast-track processing to Ontario. Nominated newcomers are expected to include their families, and will be issued with a Provincial Nomination Certificate. Ontario’s PNP has two categories:
The Employer Category is designed to attract highly-skilled professionals with the work experience and abilities that the Ontario economy needs. Employers in Ontario can recruit candidates for the PNP for an approved position. Candidates can be abroad, or already in Canada on a temporary visa type, such as a Temporary Work Permit or a Study Permit. Among the list of eligible professions for the Ontario PNP are health workers, like Pharmacists, Registered Nurses and Physiotherapists; professionals like University Professors and Researchers; as well as skilled trades people like Industrial Electricians, Carpenters, Bricklayers, Tilesetters, and Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics. The Multinational Investor Category is designed to attract world-class business investors to Ontario. Candidates under the Investor Stream must make a qualifying investment in Ontario of at least CAD$10 million, and create at least 25 new full-time jobs in the province. The Ontario Provincial Nominee Program is employer-driven, meaning that candidates can only apply if the sponsoring employer is screened, approved, and willing to provide the candidate with an Ontario PNP application package. Ontario PNP applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. |
