Manitoba's economy hot in 2006Wednesday, 25 April 2007 Manitoba's economy hot in 2006 Manitoba's economy hot in 2006 Last Updated: Wednesday, April 25, 2007 | 2:30 PM CT CBC News Manitoba's economic growth was a robust 3.3 per cent in 2006, the third highest in the country, according to figures released Wednesday by Statistics Canada. Last year's real gross domestic product growth is higher than the 2.7 per cent real GDP growth in 2005. Statistics Canada credits ideal growing conditions for the best crop for farmers in three years, allowing for strong exports of canola and wheat. Low interest rates and a solid employment picture also stimulated demand for new housing and consumer spending on durable goods, the statistics agency said in a release. Business investment also boomed, with building projects in Winnipeg and additions to the electric power infrastructure. Only Alberta and British Columbia had stronger economic growth than Manitoba last year. Nationally, GDP growth was 2.7 per cent. |
