Improved Online Service for New Foreign Workers

The Canadian government is investing $18.8 million in funding the improvement of online information, to ensure that newcomers to Canada can have a successful new life.

The new and improved online tools and services help immigrants succeed upon arrival in Canada by providing them with thorough knowledge about education, job markets, health care and lifestyle in their chosen city.

New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta the Yukon and the Northwest Territories are all signatories to a contribution agreement of the Online Services. Manitoba and British Columbia are also going to help improve online information for future immigrants and newcomers.

The new agreement indicates that provinces and territories outside of Ontario will receive about $200 000 every year. Ontario however, will receive more funding because Ontario receives over half of the immigrants coming to Canada.

The Canadian immigration portal is designed to offer integrated information to potential immigrants. The goal of the Portal is to prepare foreigners coming to Canada in their life and work, as well as to successfully integrate into the Canadian labour market.

Research indicates that Internet is a key source of information for Canadian immigrants and is almost always used for finding information on Canada. Therefore, Citizenship and Immigration Canada promotes the development of provincial and territorial websites pertaining to relevant information about Canada.
