Increase in Enrollment at Canada's UniversitiesThursday, 3 May 2007 Enrollment rates at Canada's universities are set to dramatically increase over the upcoming years. New enrollment statistics from the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada suggest that nation-wide enrollment in Canada’s universities is set to increase by between 70,000 and 150,000 students in the next 10 years. Canada already welcomes approximately 130,000 foreign students each year to study at Canada' universities, colleges and private institutes. Canadian universities have world-class reputations, but some of the lowest tuition fees among their British, American, Australian and New Zealand counterparts. The reason for the increase is simple - employment trends have indicated massive increases in the number of jobs that require degree holders. Given the growth in Canada's energy, resource and technology sectors, this trend is likely to continue, if not increase - adding to an already existing shortage of skilled degree holders.
