The South Australian Government is participating in the "Concessional English" provision, which will allow migrants, who may not possess competent English language levels, the ability to qualify for migration.

The provision will be available to migrants applying under the state sponsored 475, and 487 visa sub-classes, and who have an overall IELTS (International English Language Test System) score of 5.5.

Applicants need to have sat for an IELTS test in the last 2 years and obtained a minimum of:

  • 5.0 in listening,
  • 5.0 in reading,
  • 4.5 in writing, or
  • 4.5 in speaking

As part of the visa conditions, successful applicants will be required to pay $2,500 to TAFE South Australia, prior to lodging their application with DIAC (Department of Immigration and Citizenship). The fee is separate to other application fees and is refundable if the visa application has been refused.

Applicants who are successful will be required to register for the Concessional English program with TAFE South Australia within 3 months of arrival in South Australia, and will need to commence studying the course within 3 years of registration.
