Australia runs out of workers
Friday, 2 November 2007
According to a recent study by Australian banking giant Westpac, job opportunities abound in Australia's West, especially in the mining and resource sectors.
The mining sectors in Western Australia and Queensland are luring workers from all over Australia, and the world, with lucrative rewards and a low cost of living. The lure of high wages is so strong, and the states’ thirst for workers so insatiable that both states have entirely run out of full-time job applicants. There are not enough skilled workers to fill the available jobs in either state.
The job boom is not limited to mining. Related fields, such as lorry driving and manufacturing have seen massive wage increases over the past three years. Due to the tremendous economic draw of the resource sector, all other sectors must increase their own wages or risk losing workers themselves. It is a fantastic time to be a job-seeker in Australia!
