In 1946, the Commonwealth Government, States and Territories of Australia agreed to observe one national day 'Australia Day'. It was created as a day to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian.

With a population of almost 21 million and counting, Australia Day is about looking at the nations past, considering its present and recommitting to making Australia’s future even brighter.

Part of Australia’s future mean’s welcoming around 130 000 to 140 000 new Migrants in the coming year, with 97,500 of those places set aside for Skilled Migrants. With Australia’s population growing so dramatically, celebrations are set to continue and involve a larger and broader audience!

Australia Day 2007 was also a popular day for thousands to take up Australian citizenship. Australia Day will allow the new citizens to become part of the greater Australian community that is rich and diverse in culture, age and religion. The new citizens will be able to participate fully in the Australian community, to strengthen the freedom and openness which makes Australia unique.
