A string of corrupt incidents which took place last year prompted intense investigations into a number of Zimbabwean Nurses found with fraudulent papers. The outcome of which was an official ban of all Nurse recruitments from Zimbabwe.

South Australian Health Minister, John Hill, insisted that it was not their conduct which was under investigation, but their Certificates of Good Standing which appeared to have been forged.

The ANMC has subsequently reviewed the circumstances surrounding last year's incidents and has recommenced accepting assessment applications from Zimbabwe trained Nurses on the condition that applicants provide Certificates of Good Standing - which must also be confirmed as authentic - from the Nursing Council of Zimbabwe.

The ANMC is the official Australian organisation which facilitates a national approach to nursing and midwifery regulations. The ANMC is associated with state and territory Nursing and Midwifery Regulatory Authorities (NMRA) in evolving standards for statutory nursing and midwifery regulation.

Nurses have long been considered a skill shortage in Australia, securing a place on both the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL).

The following nursing professionals are listed on the current MODL:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurses
  • Registered Midwives
  • Registered Nurses

MODL professions can claim an additional 15 points and another 5 points if they have a job offer for full time employment with an Australian organisation.

If you wish to obtain a comprehensive assessment of your eligibility under the GSM programme, you should complete both the Migration Expert Australian Visa Eligibility Assessment and Australian Migration Interview.
